“1916 and High Modernism”

Brian Ó Conchubhair, Associate Professor of Irish Language and Literature at the University of Notre Dame, presents “1916 and High Modernism” at 3:30 PM Friday, December 5th in 424 Flanner Hall.

Ó Conchubhair, also Director of the Center of Study of Languages and Culture, authored a monograph on the intellectual history of the Irish revival entitled Fin de Siècle na Gaeilge: Darwin, An Athbheochan agus Smaointeoireacht na hEorpa (Cló Iar-Chonnachta, 2009) which received the 2009 Oireachas non-fiction award and Duais Leabhar Taighde na Bliana Fhoras na Gaeilge/ACIS Prize for Books in the Irish Language. Other edited publications include Gearrscéalta Ár Linne (Cló Iar-Chonnachta, 2006), WHY IRISH? Irish Language and Literature in Academia (Arlen House, 2008),  (Cló Iar-Chonnachta, 2011),  (Arlen House, 2011), Lost in Connemara/Cailte i gConamara (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2014) and Pádraic Breathnach: Rogha Scéalta (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2014) and (with Matt Cashore and Susan Guibert) Notre Dame’s Happy Returns: Dublin, the Game, the Experience (Notre Dame Press, 2012). He was Series Editor for Kerry’s Fighting Story 1916-1921 (Mercier, 2009), Limerick’s Fighting Story 1916-1921 (Mercier, 2009), Rebel Cork’s Fighting Story 1916-1921 (Mercier, 2009) and Dublin’s Fighting Story 1916-1921 (Mercier, 2009).
