Keelin Burke of the University of Notre Dame presents on "'A Typical Clara Bow Geste': Gender, Politics, and Censorship in the Irish Free State, 1922-1937."

Her presentation will consider how ideas of gender influenced the creation and implementation of the Censorship of Films Act, 1923, and the Censorship of Publications Act, 1929, and how censorship in the Free State often focused on matters of gender, sexuality, and the bodies of women.
