Brian Ó Conchubhair is Assistant Professor of Irish Language and Literature at the University of Notre Dame and a fellow of the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies. He edited Gearrscéalta Ár Linne (CIC, 2006), WHY IRISH? Irish Language and Literature in Academia (Arlen House, 2008) and was Series Editor for Kerry’s Fighting Story (Mercier, 2009), Limerick’s Fighting Story (Mercier, 2009), Rebel Cork’s Fighting Story (Mercier, 2009) and Dublin’s Fighting Story (Mercier 2009). Cló Iar-Chonnachta will publish his monograph on the intellectual history of the Irish language revival entitled, Fin de Siècle na Gaeilge: Darwin, An Athbheochan agus Gluaiseacht Smaointeoireacht na hEorpa in October 2009. He has directed Fulbright/IIE Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Orientations on campus in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. His research interests include: 19th- and 20th-century Ireland, the Irish Revival, contemporary Irish-language fiction, and the Irish language among the Diaspora. He has published articles in Irisleabhar Mhá Nuad, Comhar, New Hibernian Review, Éire-Ireland, Irish University Review, A New View of the Irish Language, The Yearbook of English Studies, The Gaelic Athletic Association 1884-2009, The Quiet Man ... and Beyond and Sport in History.
