Three Keough-Naughton Faculty Fellows—Declan Kiberd, Bríona Nic Dhiarmada, and Robert Schmuhl—are authors of books named as finalists for the 2016 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards.

Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards honor the best books from independent publishers. Chosen from over 2,250 individual entries, the awards were established to bring increased attention from librarians and booksellers to the literary achievements of independent publishers and their authors. The awards are unique because they ask a jury of readers, librarians, and booksellers to select their top categories as well as choose the winning titles.

The winners of the competition will be announced during the American Library Association conference, June 22-27, 2017, in Chicago.

Handbook of the Irish Revival: An Anthology of Irish Cultural and Political Writings 1891-1922Edited by Declan Kiberd and P.J. Mathews (University of Notre Dame Press, 2016) is a finalist for the 2016 Foreword INDIES book of the Year Award in the Adult Nonfiction, Reference category.

The 1916 Irish RebellionBríona Nic Dhiarmada (University of Notre Dame Press, 2016)  is a finalist for the 2016 Foreword INDIES book of the Year Award in the Adult Nonfiction, History category.

Fifty Years with Father Hesburgh, Robert Schmuhl (University of Notre Dame Press, 2016) is a finalist for the 2016 Foreword INDIES book of the Year Award in the Adult Nonfiction, Biography category.
