As part of the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies Twentieth Anniversary Speakers and Public Talks Series, Patricia Palmer, Senior Lecturer at King's College London, will present a talk "Violence in Tudor Ireland,"  on Friday September 13, 2013 at 3:00 PM in 424 Flanner Hall.

She is currently writing Severed Heads, Grafted Tongues: Ireland and the Writing of Violence.  It explores the writing of atrocity, by crossing back and forth between literary severed heads and the very literal beheadings that stake out the landscape of early-modern Ireland.

Her first book, Language and Conquest in Early Modern Ireland: English Renaissance Texts and English Imperial Expansion (Cambridge University Press, 2001), explores the relationship between Elizabethan high culture and the conduct of colonization – particularly linguistic colonization – in Ireland.
