Faculty Fellow Ian Newman (Department of English) presents on Thomas Moore and the Anacreontic Tradition.
Ian Newman is a scholar of British and Irish literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He has a B.A. from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. from UCLA. His research focuses on literature, balladry, politics and urban space. In addition to published articles and essays on the politics and literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, he is also completing a book on Romantic-period taverns, and is the co-editor of a collection of essays on the theatre impresario, popular song writer and author, Charles Dibdin. He is the author of the online project www.1790salehouse.com. Professor Newman has also been a visiting scholar in the music department at King’s College London.
