Professor Maria DeBattista of Princeton University will deliver the second Madden-Rooney Lecture of the 2022 IRISH Seminar. Her topic: "'A Terrible Beauty': Yeats' Later Poems (1922) and The Trembling of the Veil (1922)."

Maria DiBattista, the Charles Barnwell Straut Class of 1923 Professor of English at Princeton University, has written extensively on modern literature and film. Her books include Fast Talking Dames, a study of American film comedy of the thirties and forties, Imagining Virginia Woolf: An Experiment in Critical Biography, and Novel Characters: A Genealogy. She is also the co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to Autobiography and Modernism and Autobiography. Her latest work, co-authored with Deborah Nord, is At Home in the World: Women Writers, Public Lives, a study of women’s political writings from Jane Austen to the present day.
