The 2026 Seamus Deane Memorial Lecture in Irish Studies is a new collaborative initiative between the Institute of Irish Studies, QUB; the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies, University of Notre Dame; and the W.B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies, University of Sao Paulo. This year's lecture, "Irish Anthropocene: Literary Ecologies and Political Geologies", will be delivered by Professor Malcom Sen. The lecture will be preceded by a wine reception in the Great Hall from 4:15 - 5:00 pm.
Speaker Biography
Malcolm Sen is an Associate Professor in English at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His research interests focus on questions of justice, statecraft, and postcolonial politics as they emerge in this contemporary moment of climate crisis. Malcolm holds a PhD from UCD and was an Irish Research Council Elevate Fellow at Harvard University’s Center for the Environment. He was also awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, University of Notre Dame. His books include Race in Irish Literature and Culture (Cambridge UP, 2021), The Cambridge History of Irish Literature and the Environment (Cambridge UP, 2021), and, most recently, Irish Anthropocene: Literature, Climate Change, Sovereignty (Syracuse UP, 2026).
