On March 3, the University will hold an invitation-only Gala Premiere of the landmark documentary 1916 The Irish Rebellion, produced by the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies in association with COCO Television Productions, Limited.

Narrated by Liam Neeson, the documentary examines the events and aftermath of the Easter Rising.

On Easter Monday 1916, a small group of Irish rebels—including poets, teachers, actors, and workers—took on the might of the British Empire.  Although defeated militarily, the men and women of the Easter Rising would soon win a moral victory—with their actions leading to the creation of an independent Irish state and contributing to the eventual disintegration of the British Empire. They have inspired countless freedom struggles throughout the world—from Ireland to India.

A public screening of the documentary will be held Thursday, March 31, 8:30 p.m. at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.  This is a free but ticketed event.
