Judith Stapleton 600x600

The Keough-Naughton Institute's 2023-2024 National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow, Dr. Judith Stapleton (PhD Yale University), will present on her book project, "William Orpen and the Making of Modern Irish Art." Tracing Orpen’s career from Dublin to London to the trenches of the First World War, this project reexamines the life and legacy of the Irish artist, tracing the aesthetic and historiographical narratives that have sidelined the painter from popular histories of modern painting. Dr. Stapleton’s presentation will be followed by responses from Professors Róisín Kennedy (University College Dublin), Fionna Barber (Manchester School of Art), and Morna O'Neill (Wake Forest University).

This is an annual event sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies. Reception to follow.
