Ken Loach’s historical drama won the Palme d’Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival with its compelling and microcosmic fictional story.

This second film in the six-part "Screening the Irish Troubles" series is set during the Irish War of Independence in the early 1920s. One brother Damien (Cillian Murphy), an Irish medical student, is about to leave Ireland to complete his training in London, but before doing so witnesses atrocious brutalities carried out by the Black and Tans which leads him to join his brother Teddy (Pádraic Delaney) in the Irish Republican Army.
