Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins), a self-proclaimed promoter, is kicking around north Dublin. He doesn't have a job, but he does have a love for The Marvelettes, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Ann Peebles, and other 1960s African-American musicians. Unable to experience these sounds live, he cobbles together a soul group to fill the musical void.
