The Good Friday Agreement brought an end to the Troubles in an historic agreement between contesting parties in Northern Ireland as well as between the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom, but the peace process was long and arduous and fraught at every turn. To reflect on the accomplishment and to assess what we can learn from this example, Ian McBride, Nicholas Cole, and Josefina Echavarría Alvarez will discuss the peace process and treaties in a comparative framework.
