Barry McCrea, Keough Family Professor of Irish Studies and Professor of English, edited the second edition of Sherlock Holmes: Selected Stories (Oxford World Classics, April, 2014). Professor McCrea provides the introduction and notes to this new selection of twelve of the best Sherlock Holmes stories. His introduction considers the reasons for Sherlock Holmes’ lasting popularity, while giving historical context to the late Victorian and Edwardian setting and examining the many afterlives inspired by the detective stories. Notably, this work is the first new Oxford World's Classics edition of Selected Stories of Sherlock Holmes since 1950, and the first to have a full set of scholarly notes.
