Every summer, Notre Dame's Dublin Global Gateway and Kylemore Global Centre welcome between 40 and 55 Notre Dame undergraduate students and graduate law students to Ireland for internships at organizations across the full spectrum of Irish life, including cultural, governmental, academic, and corporate entities.

Internships have included positions at the Department of Foreign Affairs, RTÉ Media, the Abbey Theatre, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Museum of Literature Ireland, IBM, Bank of Ireland, Bank of America, Equilend, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Don Bosco Care, Youth Education Services for Refugees and Migrants, and many more. The internship program encompasses several Research Experience for Undergraduates (REUs) in the arts as well as in STEM disciplines.

The internships are open to Notre Dame students of any major, minor, or concentration. Irish Studies minors and Irish Language and Literature majors and minors are given special consideration in the selection process.

The Irish internships are organized by the Dublin Global Gateway via the Notre Dame platform Handshake.

Generally, internships run between mid-May and late July, with closing dates for applications in late September and interviews in late October.

The Irish internships are generously funded by a variety of individual benefactors and corporations as well as such Notre Dame entities as the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies, the Nanovic Institute for European Studies, the College of Arts and Letters, and the Naughton Fellowship Program.

Students selected for internships are also awarded airfare, accommodation, and a living allowance. The award includes all activities facilitated by the Dublin Global Gateway, such as the professional development program and cultural enrichment trips throughout Dublin and the rest of Ireland.
